Nano Robotics Applications in Treating Tumor

In recent times Nanotechnology has been the most interesting field in science. Nano robots are minute to the scale of micro-meters which are the size of our body’s cell. The Nano robots have cameras which can seep into the body for vision and better diagnosis than conventional methods. The most recent research has made it possible for the Nano robots to even cure cancer. Cancer has always been the major reason for sufferings and deaths. Therefore it has been the most challenging for science to find a cure to this illness. Therefore the nanotechnologists took to this task. They then succeeded at that by inventing the Nano robots also called as the bacteria robots. To understand better about how the bots can cure cancer is to first understand how cancer occurs.

Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. The unwanted accumulation of cells is harmful for the body and can be dangerous enough to cause death. Hence the best solution to this problem is eroding the tumour by killing those tissues. Chemotherapy is one such method of curing cancer. In this process the drugs that enter the body are directed to the fast growing cells that divide at a rapid pace which is the main characteristic of cancer cells. Therefore it not only kills the cancer but also affect the other tissues like hair tissues, digestive system and bone marrows which might lead to side effects like hair loss, indigestion, etc.

Nano robots, it is now possible to overcome this problem which cures cancer without the side-effects. The Nano robots consisting of capsules filled of drugs to cure cancer are instilled in bacteria called the salmonella bacteria. So basically, the salmonella bacteria are genetically modified to carry these Nano robots. Why this specific bacteria? Well, these are the bacteria that are attracted by the cancer sell. Therefore the bacteriobots, which are injected into the body, directly target the cancer cells. Once the bacteria are attached to cancer cells, the robots sense the cancer and release the drug which acts on the cancer cells alone sparing the healthy cells. Therefore all those side-effects are prevented.

These bacteriobots that enter the body can be monitored by monitoring them with cameras on the nanobots itself. Another way is ultrasonic modules installed on them. The alternate can be continuous monitoring of the bots movement by keeping the patient under an MRI scan so that the magnetic portions of the bots are detected. At the moment the bacteriobots can only detect tumor forming cancers and hence it can cure only breast cancer and cholesterol cancer. But according to the experts, they will eventually be able to find a cure for other cancer as well with this technology.
